The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office uses mounted Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology to aid in locating stolen cars, finding wanted suspects, locating missing or abducted persons, and solving crimes more efficiently.  The system captures images of license plates and vehicles in public areas and alerts officers if a plate is associated with a crime or missing person.  The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office uses both fixed and vehicle-mounted ALPR systems.

The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is committed to using ALPR technology in a lawful and transparent manner that addresses common concerns that the public expresses about it. The ALPR systems operate according to our policy that ensures we protect privacy and accountability.
